- Flash(tm) Image Export Xtra for FreeHand 7(tm)
- ==============================================
-
- April 10, 1997
-
-
- Description:
- ===========
-
- The Flash Image Export Xtra(tm) allows FreeHand 7 to export Flash .SWF files
- that can be read by Flash 2 and the Shockwave(tm) Flash 2 Netscape(tm)-
- compatible plug-in.
-
- ***Note*** that these documents must be imported to Flash 2 with the command
- File > Import .
-
- Install instructions:
- =====================
-
- Macintosh and Power Macintosh:
- ----------------------------
-
- 1. If you have not already done so, Install FreeHand 7.
-
- 2. Drag the file "Flash Writer" (found on your Flash 2 Product CD) into the
- Xtras folder located within the FreeHand 7 folder on your hard drive.
-
- 3. Restart FreeHand
-
- Windows 95 and NT
- -----------------
-
- 1. If you have not already done so, Install FreeHand 7.
-
- 2. Drag the file Flash.x32 (found on your Flash 2 Product CD) into the Xtras
- folder located within the FreeHand 7 folder on your hard drive. The default
- path to this folder is:
- Program Files > Macromedia > Fh7 > Usenglsh > Xtras
-
- 3. Restart FreeHand
-
- Usage:
- =====
-
- To export a FreeHand file in the Flash image format, select Xtras > Create >
- Flash Image in FreeHand 7. Clicking on the options button will bring up a
- dialog with the options for image compression and number of pages to export.
-
- Image compression
- Bitmapped images will be converted to JPEG format on export. Users can
- control the image quality and amount of compression of color JPEGs. Options
- range from None (hiqh quality, low compression) to Maximum (low quality, high
- compression).
-
- Pages
- (default: all) When exporting multiple page documents, FreeHand will create a
- separate movie for each page. Each movie will be the same size as the page, so
- if a user exports a document with different size pages, the flash movies
- will be different sizes as well.
-
-
- Feature Notes:
- ==============
-
- Text
- Text is converted to paths on export. Including a large amount of text will
- dramatically increase the size of the resulting .SWF file. All FreeHand
- text effects, except inline graphics, will not export to Flash format. To
- preview a text effect as it will appear in Flash, we recommend converting
- text to paths before exporting.
-
- URLS
- The URL Editor Xtra in FreeHand 7 applies URLS to objects. When exported, the
- objects become links in Shockwave Flash. However, objects will lose their
- links when the movie is imported into Flash.
-
- Colors
- All colors are converted to RGB equivalents. Using RGB Browser-safe colors in
- your FreeHand designs ensures consistent color.
-
- Color Management
- FreeHand's Color Management affects the colors in your document when you
- export to Flash 2 format. For true RGB values on export to Flash 2 turn off
- Color Management before exporting.
-
- Linked text containers
- All linked text containers will not export to Flash format. We recommend
- selecting all linked text containers on a page, cutting and pasting onto
- the page or into a new document. The text can now be exported in a Flash
- document.
-
- Grayscale or CMYK images
- Flash does not directly support grayscale or CMYK images, and these files will
- be ignored by the Flash Export Xtra. Transparent and/or colorized grayscale
- and transparent and/or colorized 1-bit bitmap images will also be ignored on
- export.
-
- Indexed (256) color images
- 256 Color images will be converted to RGB on export.
-
- Clipping Paths and Tiled Fills
- Flash does not support clipping, and tiled fills are converted to objects
- with a basic fill. The tile is discarded.
-
- PostScript Fills and Strokes
- PostScript fills and strokes are converted to objects with a basic fill.
- Custom fills and strokes, and textured fills are not supported in Flash.
-
- Pattern Fills and Strokes
- Pattern fills and strokes are converted to objects with a basic fill.
-
- Groups and Layers
- Grouping and layering information will be ignored.
-
- Other
- Pattern fills and strokes, caps/joins, colorized/transparent TIFFS, EPS,
- halftones, and styles are also ignored.
-
- ***NOTE***
